THIS IS NOT A WORSHIP ALBUM! :)

Ok so now that this is clear, I really hesitated to review this album because it wasn’t “worship.”  However, I love this album so much that I decided to review it anyways.

This group is Gungor.  Their original name was the Michael Gungor Band shortened to simply ‘Gungor’ on their last release.  They are a core team of four including Michael Gungor and his wife Lisa.

Album Description:  For their third major release, Gungor has composed a concept album that celebrates the beauty of life even in the midst of darkness and pain. Starting with a startling musical imagining of the creation of the universe and traversing subjects like the “fall of man” and the imperfection of our religious systems, this album leads the listener through a roller coaster of emotion that eventually leads us back to wonder and thankfulness to this beautiful gift of life.” (www.gungormusic.com)

They encouraged you if you buy this album to read their blog post that describes each song and their heart behind it….this is what I did.  I listened to the album and read the corresponding story about each song.  This enriched the album tremendously.  I think if you were to just try and understand each song without reading the description you could get lost easily as they don’t put tons of emphasis on the lyrics - they more try to share the entire story of the song valuing the instruments as much as the lyrics to paint the picture.

I have a feeling people are either going to love this album or hate it.  But maybe if you are like me and cry at the Boise Philharmonic or cry really anytime a group of instruments plays together perfectly, you might like or even love this album.  They incorporate tons of different sounds and it is beautiful (and at times a bit silly too :).

I could go on and on about this album (ask my husband), but I will stop. :)

I had a hard time deciding what song to post as the album all really works together, so I just choose one of my favorites.  It is a song of determination written by Lisa.

Here is the link to their blog entry detailing this album….go read it! :)
